“
I have suggested this to every city who hasn’t made any changes yet: start small, identify everything you and your community wants to do and then start with the low hanging fruit. The savings will immensely help you fund future sustainability projects.”
Cheryl Brothers, Mayor of Fountain Valley
Project Solution
The first phase consisted of high efficiency heating & cooling (HVAC) system replacements and interior & exterior LED lighting modernizations throughout City buildings. In the second phase, Climatec assisted the City in acquiring over 3,200 streetlight poles from SoCal Edison (SCE) as well as converting all antiquated lighting systems to LED including street safety lighting and street name signage. Additionally, the City chose to add a high efficiency air conditioning system to the indoor sports gymnasium at the City’s Recreation Center, which drastically and immediately improved occupant comfort during activities. Lastly, the City implemented solar power generation systems across multiple City sites including a shade structure that not only provides power to the newly implemented air-conditioned gymnasium but provides sun protection for the cars of community members visiting the City’s services. Through its energy initiatives, Fountain Valley has reduced its operating costs, created a greener environment across its facilities, improved community safety and awareness and reduced its carbon footprint.
Project Results
With this program, the City will reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by more than 1,833 metric tons annually, which equates to 298 cars off the road, 161,846 gallons of gasoline saved, 213 Fountain Valley homes powered and more than 42,615 trees preserved from deforestation.
Total Program Value: $7.4 Million
